Well, Robert we've come full circle but that's ok because I think the parameters are clearer.

"As long as people live by doing good deeds, their motivation doesn't matter."

A person can do a good deed based on principle. Principles are not subject to change over time or under different circumstances. A person can also do something that they feel is good for their current political agenda. As we've seen the latter often spoils over time and as circumstances change.

This is why in my original comment I encouraged decision making based on principle vs self-serving (political) agendas.
