"Well...... lets take our favorite subject"

Yours not mine.

"I'd like to see abortion more available, inexpensive or free to those who can't afford it, and safe. Is that a self-serving "political" agenda? I think not. It's an issue of individual freedom, the basis for our democracy."

It is your way of making a lot of money. So, your opinion is automatically suspect. Other than that, yes I do think it is a self-serving "political" agenda? Why, because the people supporting it line up on a particular "political" platform. The groups who support this type of "political" action are supporting several others as a package deal; Anti-religion laws and gay rights laws for example. Well, if there is a principle of goodness that underlies all of these then it would apply to all of humanity. What is that Robert? If any effort is made to dehumanize a portion of humanity to accomplish the goals of a political group then the principle is likely false. For example: black people and Native Americans had to be dehumanized in order to justify slavery. As time and circumstances changed so the practice became viewed as a self serving bad practice perpetrated by a particular group. When enemies of the state are identified they usually have to be dehumanized in the eyes of the soldiers in order to wage war (ie nips, gooks etc).

You already know all of this so I expect you to mock my serious tone...bring it on.

I'm still smilin'

Robert:

I seem to be on your case a lot these days.

"Well...... lets take our favorite subject, abortion. I'd like to see abortion more available, inexpensive or free to those who can't afford it, and safe. Is that a self-serving "political" agenda? I think not

You clearly have a political agenda, whether or not it is self serving or not depends on matters I know nothing about. Since you want to see abortions more widely available and free, this clearly requires legislation. If you want to see additional legislation or if you persumbably want the government to pay for these, you have a political agenda. i.e. You want the government to do something. There is nothing wrong with this. We all call on our government to do all sorts of things. But we need to understand that when we do that is the essence of politics.

"It's an issue of individual freedom, the basis for our democracy."

While it is true that individual freedom is what sets our government apart from many other countries. It is not the basis of our democracy. Democracy is the rule of the majority. It has nothing to do with individual freedom (Although I will admit that individual freedom will more likely flourish under a democracy than any other type of government.) All politics involves the battle of the individual against the power of the state, therefore if it is a matter of individual freedom it is a politcal matter.

So what you are saying is that because you (self?) feel that abortion is good, I should help pay for abortions regardless of my beliefs.

That is NOT individual freedom. Your logic in thinking it is exposes a major flaw in dem logic. Individual freedom is the case when people that want them pay for their own abortions.

Nadine and Patricia may "applaud" your logic, but not me. You have just highlighted why I don't like your politics, and have made me question your intelligence.

I think not. It's an issue of individual freedom, the basis for our democracy.

Like all liberals today you get to decide what is freedom don't you ? You are the anointed one. Of course I am sure your against vouchers which is a section of the population who want their tax dollars to go to the school of their choice. I am sure your against prayer in school even if 99% of the school wants it.
The only freedom you are for is sexual freedom. Did you ever notice that about yourself and all liberals today ?
If its about sex then it must be free. And if we get disease well than everyone must pay for it. Huxley described your world in "Brave New World"
It is a world where everyone has more and more of their freedom's taken away but sexual freedom is increased so that you don't mind the servitude.

The individual freedoms of all Americans are provided in the Constitution, largely in the amendments. State constitution commonly provided additional rights. I fail to see what you claim in that document.

It's an issue of individual freedom, the basis for our democracy.
Actually, this is not a democracy, it's a federal republic. That's why legislators vote on laws rather than you voting on them directly. As for individual freedom, see above.

I'd like to see abortion more available, inexpensive or free to those who can't afford it, and safe.
You liberals never saw one of my dollars you didn't want to spend, did you? This is an individual responsibility, not a governmental one.
You want an abortion? You pay for it.

BTW, I'm pro-choice.
