You might be right, and I probably made a mistake when I suggested it was "THE BOTTOM" that would be turned into a spectacle. I was thinking more of what true capitulation and panic selling might look like in our era, and, even in that scenario, the real bottom would come later.

Needless to say, no one knows at this point whether we're heading for a "bang!" or a whimper or a series of bangs and whimpers or even (though doesn't seem likely) if we've already seen whatever it is we think we're looking for. On the other hand, in some ways there's no true precedent, and couldn't be one, for what's happening. '92 wasn't the unwinding of the great bull of bulls, and, even if in real terms the current economic and political situation turns out to be a bed of roses compared to the seventies or the Depression, we still may have a lot more to undergo before this era's insatiable appetite for overdone spectacle is satisfied.
