I'm confused on what's going on with Lucent these days and trying to figure out the true value of this company. I'm looking for a turnaround story if it has any.

hdl;

I don't know much about the spin-off. However, if the proceeds are used to reduce debt then the interest savings will hit the bottom line and the risk of a reduction in debt rating is reduced. I seriously doubt that any of the proceeds from the spin-off will be distributed to shareholders particularly with the debt level of lu these days. Therefore, any delay is a bad thing since it will delay debt reduction and a corresponding interest expense reduction. As for some silly post earlier about lu loosing $8/share after the spin-off I can only assume that that particular poster is about 10 years old.
