In the longer term higher prices will have some great benefits as a stimulus to innovation for energy efficiency, fuel source/medium substitution and for pollution reduction -- i.e. fuel cells, etc. We all waste what we do not properly value. The trouble with oil prices is their tendency to "spike". Perhaps the answer is long-term contracting.
