Maybe they'll follow the HK government approach when their currency was under attack - just buy stocks directly. HK was able to prop up their market long enough for the US to come to the rescue back then. Japan seems incapable of structural reform; it's just one quick fix after another.

Of course, none of this is new ;-) but with every weak link in the markets under a magnifying lens, Japan is looking very vulnerable. It seems they will need a collapse to facilitate change. The real question is will the US let it collapse? At what cost to themselves? The US always acts in its self-interest and in the past have ignored moral hazard when it comes to bailing out bad risk-taking.

Then again, maybe there's nothing they can do this time...
