Jay,

I remember my phone call with Cindy Burgdorf like it was yesterday.
(Even though it is now almost 3 years ago!!!)

Siemens = ROM MMC (read only, pre-loaded content)
SanDisk = flash RAM MMC (read, write, re-write)

I can't help but recall that the OEM bundling arrangements with the
digital camera manufacturers ended up being low margin CF business.
I hope the same won't be true with MMC and SDMC cards in the Palm.

I don't know what will be packaged with the Palm device. I suspect that
the MMC and SDMC won't be "give aways" like the 8MB CompactFlash cards
you see with digital cameras. For a handheld device 8MB can be a
substantial amount of memory unless you are using music files or graphics.
Palm seems to be marketing the cards as premium items with fatter margins.

It will also be important to see which software applications will
require large amounts of expansion memory. These applications
will drive card sales.

SDMC will be more expensive than MMC on a MB for MB basis due to the
added proprietary encryption software, manual write protections switch,
etc... It will be interesting to see SDMC advantages over MMC.
