SIV doesn't cause AIDS in monkeys,
Maybe the problem is that you don't know what AIDS is. AIDS is not in itself a disease, it is the symptoms and opportunistic infections that occur after the immune system has collapsed. Since monkeys as a group have been infected with SIV for a long time, the SIV infection does not necessarily cause the monkey's immune system to fail (since the monkeys where it does fail have already died and are not the ancestors of current monkeys). HIV is still a virulent infection in humans and often causes the immune system to fail which brings on the symptoms known as AIDS. This should be 4th grade material unless you are home schooled.

When was the great Simian AIDS epidemic?
Apparently a few thousand years ago.
