My gut says that it will be a nasty market environment for the next 3 months or so. However, the intellect says that if AG and the boyz continue on the current course, then visibility will return for many companies come summer and we can begin the expectations game again.

As to who is flogging this market, I'd have to agree with the TSC thesis ... but it is a dangerous game as they are dwarfed in size by the non-hedgies and could get their head handed to them once the market turns.

And, lest we forget, it is good to remember that there is only one market that really matters when it comes to the health of the U.S. economy short or long-run ... bondz, of course, and they are acting quite well (except for the real junk end) given the histrionics of the equities. As my very first financial mentor constantly refrained ... bondz are for investing, equities for gambling and having fun (kinda like the difference between working a real job and taking a vacation in Vegas, I guess -- although I do neither so its hard for me to relate!).
