She certainly touches on some of things in the New Testament one might find troubling, though sometimes a bit too hard. For example, even if Christ knew about the origins of disease, why would he start lecturing a crowd about it, rather than use the common terms of his time? Besides, once granting supernaturalism, what if some illness did come from demons, especially mental illness?

Pigs and their virtues are neither here nor there. Miracles are frequently performed "showily", to maximize the impact as a sign of Divine Operation.

The eschatological question is more troubling. I am not quite sure how fundamentalists deal with it.

The idea of Hell is troubling, but not a sheer factual error or contradiction.

Jesus got "peeved" because he had shown many signs, and was still having difficulty with incredulity.

The fig tree incident is interesting to bring up, but I always thought it was meant to be a sort of living parable.

The horse thief charge is unclearly supported, since Jesus speaks as if the horse were waiting for him, and as if the explanation that the "Lord hath need of him" would suffice.

Interesting piece, though........

Solon, how long will you remain so ignorant of scriptures?

1. First of all do we read any place where Jesus ever fell ill? No! We do read that HE cured all manner of sicknesses, raised up the dead, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf. He commanded demons to be silent. He cured ten lepers at one time by just telling them to show themselves to the priest. Did he have power over viruses, bacteria, germs, etc?...... Absolutely! By virtue of the fact that he brought healing where there was sickness is proof enough that he was not ignorant of the sources responsible over mens afflictions.

2. First of all what were those pigs doing in that part of the country? The Israelites were commanded to not eat swines flesh in the Old Testament and shouldn't have had anything to do with them. Second of all the demons had beseeched Jesus to let them inhabit the bodies of the pigs not the other way around. He granted them this request for an ensample to all men that demons are not to be trusted and that if not even a pig can tolerate demonic influence then why are men such easy prey. Something for Wiccans and witches to think about especially.

3. Jesus never once said the world would end in their lifetime. The author here is either deliberately lying or just plain stupid. The truth is that Jesus had told his disciples it is not for them to know the time of the end. Furthermore he said not even the angels in heaven knew, but only God the Father.

4. How clever. twist the words around and make it sound like Jesus is not the kind one. REMEMBER, IT IS HE WHO LAID HIS LIFE DOWN, THE GUILTLESS FOR THE GUILTY and that critics are just a dime a dozen.

5. Where there was faith Jesus was quick to respond with praise. Where there was unbelief he was also the first and foremost to point it out, he was God incarnate and had the right. Anyone who reads the scriptures clearly understands that his disciples were constantly asking him questions. Those who tempted him were not looking for answers but were setting snares that they might entrap him with his own words. Big difference!

6. Who said it was out of peevishness, should I trust their judgement? Reading in context we find that Jesus was relating the barren fig tree incident to the spiritual condition of the nation of Israel. They should have recognized their savior when he appeared but they did not. THEY WERE SPIRITUALLY BARREN YET THEY STILL TRIED TO MAINTAIN A SUPERIOR SPIRITUAL INFLUENCE OVER THE REST OF THE WORLD, THUS THEY STILL HAD GREEN LEAVES. Jesus by cursing the fig tree was showing what God was going to do to the nation of Israel.

7. There wasn't ever any horses mentioned. My, what scholars we have!

<<<<Anyone who really believes in the bible has a serious problem - that person is either very ignorant or very disturbed. Yet George Gallup tells us (October, 1976) that 38 per cent of the people in this country say that they believe the bible is "literally true, word for word.">>>>

Only an absolute moron would be stupid enough to say that. But then again how many on this thread take the same approach and are delighted in doing so. REALLY SICK!!!
