What is marriage from the point of view of the state? Two things:
1. A datum to add to their data bases to track what citizens are doing.
2. A lever to manipulate people.

If I were to get married today, I would seriously consider having the church wedding ceremony but not filing any government paperwork. Consulting with a lawyer before hand would of course be part of my consideration process.

I don't consider it a type of marriage, but what one might call "household licensure". We agree that the essentials are already there to accomplish legally. We disagree on whether it is correct to make the matter more expeditious. You fear the resemblance to marriage. I consider it a means of defusing a situation in a way that satisfies most interests......
