I feel the same way. I've gone looking for these purported tremendous bargains and have come up dry. Nobody who talks about them has ever been willing to point me to one in real life, so either they're keeping the bargains for themselves (which seems doubtful, because they're generally Sun detractors) or the penny-on-the-dollar bargains just don't exist.

As you point out, Sun could benefit by selling service contracts if/when surplus machines do change hands.
