Just like a price delta between two different stock prices ;). The analogy to an energy delta between two different energies is quite solid. Then there's also the online quote, which you can look up ;).

Anyway, enough of this...

Nope, I'm in the conversation now. ;)

Ever hear of "delta-vee"? Change in velocity, very common term. If you were going 10m/s and you accelerated to 20m/s in two seconds, then your a equals 5m/ss and your delta v (delta is represented as an equilateral triangle with the point pointing upwards) is 10m/s.

There are other ways in mathematics to use delta, but straight representation of difference is one of them.

Of course, I dropped out of my math major. ;)

PS: Partial derivatives ... is that with a lowercase delta? I forget...
