I'm glad you cited Lincoln and FDR together, as they happen to be the best Presidents we had. One saved the Union, the other saved the World. I don't know your politics in particular, but the politics of the Right embraces suppression of ideas and thoughts that contrary to their agenda. See Jerry Falwell and cronies. Suppression of 'incorrect' art and literature, suppression of 'distasteful' film and TV, suppression of 'unacceptable' songs, suppression of 'unpatriotic' acts.
