You may be right in that I may be a little paranoid and overprotective. What I see out their scares me, for the sake of my family. I also lock the doors, even during the day. That, unfortunately, is the most prudent thing to do in today's world.

Fortunately, my kids still experience life; they ride bikes, swim, play with friends, and I don't even make them wear bubblewrap.

Maybe if there weren't the guns out there, that would be one less thing to worry about.

My wife told me a story about one of the kid's friends. He was getting on his bike to ride home. My wife told him that she was surprised he wasn't wearing a helmet.

He said "Oh I always wear my helmet. By now." and he rode off down the street bare headed.

After listening to this story I told her "There goes a future democrat."
