I guess our basic disagreement, which we probably won't resolve, is in the basic "usefulness" of a gun. You view it as a means of survival, and a tool for reducing risk. I look at the same thing, and see a threat, and a tool for unintentional and intentional killing.

Yet another school in the news today in New York. Honor kids planning school shootings; seven guns recovered when the kids were arrested. When will it end. Do you really think these kids would be planning this sort of attack with seven knives? Guns have a way of emboldening those with some axe to grind, and actively encourages their aggressive and antisocial behavior. They view it as a power enabler. Teenagers are inexplicitly attracted to guns, as shown on a recent episode of 20/20. Therefore, I believe that guns are part of the problem, and making such behavior worse.
