I need help or advice on two different subjects,

My computer goes into what seems like a state of suspended animation for about 6-10 seconds. Everything that is running just comes to a complete halt. If I'm in the middle of printing it also stops. Mouse won't respond and everything just comes to a halt. After 6-10 seconds everything goes back to normal. This happens about every 10 minutes. My question is whether this could be a hardware or software problem? It doesn't matter if I'm on-line or off-line. I could be just doing a Excel spreadsheet or not doing any application when this happens.

My second question is, after I power on, if I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, how do I know what all those programs that are running do? Are all these programs that are running necessary?

Mark...with my Norton SystemWorks program I have the Mem Load and CPU Usage sensors active. Right now just looking at this message the Mem Load is 100% and the CPU Usage is 4%. I think the memory load has something going that is eating up memory all the time. Any suggestions would help. I have Win 98 with 64 Meg of memory. ( I know, I need more memory, lol )
