I'm taking a breather from networking my computers to RR using a Linksys router. My biggest mistake was letting Nicholas install the NIC card on their new computer. I assumed he'd actually read the instructions before doing anything. Nick didn't understand the significance of the hardware driver not being set up. So I assumed the NIC card was working and spent 11 hours yesterday in vain. There is also the fact that Roadrunner assigns only one IP address to an account, and so there was one IP address assigned to the old computer and it's sort of mysterious how to get it to change the assignment to the router, you have to shut down the modem and program the router and so on and so forth. I am probably making a lot of unnecessary mistakes but have managed to connect to the Internet on the new computer through the router. I also managed to link the computers together so they can use the same printer. Now I am going to see if the old computer can access the Internet through the router, and if not, try to set it up. I am still wearing the same nightgown I had on all day yesterday and haven't brushed my hair in two days. It's all tangled because I keep pulling on it and shrieking curses at tech types who write documentation for all this stuff, it's never in English. Thank God for newsgroups. I may be back later or I may never be seen again.
