"If all the best and brightest go to private schools, the public schools will be left without political support. This is a rational fear, and I have not seen it answered by your reply or any other. "

How do you answer the charge that over 50 % of lowly paid public school teachers send their children to private schools ? How do you answer the charge that not 1 Democrat in Washington send his child to a public school while ranting and raving about them ?

"As far as I can tell, we're doing a pretty good job educating our best and brightest; it's the lower half of kids who are badly served."

Have you been to an engineering class lately ? Have you been to a computer science class lately ? The best and brightest are from India China and other countries. My son was the only white male in his class.

Denial . Self-denial . Illusion ???

But you completely prove my point regarding our losing battle with the curse of ignorance. For me, the focus is training an elite to lead us into the future in the productive fields (as opposed to destroying our society through suing one another).

For you, however, it's all about "political support" (whatever you think that is), and holding that future elite hostage to the lowest common denominator of society.

Great empires have been brought down by far less, and America is hardly immune. We have made huge strides against War, Poverty, and Plague. But the fourth horseman, Ignorance, has us on the run...

Not true in PA. The slower and more disruptive kids are kept with the regular classes and pushed through. The kids who are conscientious and want to learn, suffer.
