Sorry, I didn't mean holding back grade levels. I meant holding them back by making education a low priority. For example, many people want their kids to follow in their footsteps, sometimes at an early age. So, they get them jobs and make them a higher priority than their schooling. The attitude is "it was good enough for me, it should be good enough for my kids".

These parents should realize that education opens a whole spectrum of opportunities for their children, in many cases to have a better set of choices than they did.
