warawls ...

I don't have enough information about your situation to make anything other than a stab in the dark ...
..
that the computer upgrade from 300 to 1000 should show a VAST difference of faaaaaaaster ...

don't know enough about ME to make a call there, but doubt if it is slower than 98 ...

that lessening of RAM from 256 to 128 will make a diff, but NOT very much .. now from 128 to 32 === that would make a big dif ..
but 128 is adequate for most apps ....

try this ...
it will give you your connection speed
msn.zdnet.com

where I'm guessimg your difficulty is happening .....

Do you know what your average connection speed(connected @bps)was with Earthlink compared to what it is with Compuserve?

Another thing is ,have you checked your modem configuration to your ISP on your new computer.

Your ISP should help with that.

Did you use Earthlink on the old system and CS on the new one, and never switch between the two? This is important bc you may have experienced the same problems with the old computer had you not. I would either setup the old system(if possible) and try connecting to the service you are now connecting to or try connecting to the Earthlink account with the new system assuming you still have an account open.

Also go to Control Panel, and Modem. Choose and click Properties and make sure Maximum Speed is set to 57600 or higher.
