mishi,

Bebop a lulu, eh? Was that a Jerome Kern piece?

Alternatively, "bebop a rebop" is a lyric from the Prarie Home Companion radio show. I can't recall it all, but the chorus ends "bebop a rebop, rhubarb pie!" Just thought you'd find that bit of trivial of some interest. Bein' a Midwesterner and all....

Other that that Ray, you are 100% correct.
That and a quarter and I still can't afford a mocha.

Internet from Outer Space Dept. - I had DirectPC for a while and had mixed success with it. I greatly prefer my cable modem, though it is not anywhere near a reliable utility yet. Instead of six nines, as the lingo goes, I probably get one "98".

I've got a friend who just had a horrible experience with Starband/DISH network. So, I'm glad to hear that you're planning on the Hughes system. The two-way Hughes system sounds good, but I'd be leery of being an early adaptor. These systems always seem to suffer from lots of shakedown cruise headaches. Or as one friend tells me, the pioneers are the ones with the arrows in the back.

R.

Is this good for CIEN or bad?

The tech rally ended quickly in after-hours action Tuesday as Nortel Networks warned that first-quarter results will fall below expectations and Palm said it expects a fourth-quarter loss and will cut 250 jobs.

Issues in the fiber optic space sank after Nortel's news, with Cisco (CSCO: news, msgs, alerts) down 2.4 percent, JDS Uniphase (JDSU: news, msgs, alerts) down nearly 4 percent, Ciena (CIEN: news, msgs, alerts) off 2.9 percent and Juniper Networks (JNPR: news, msgs, alerts) sliding 1.7 percent.

Nortel Networks

Nortel Networks (NT: news, msgs, alerts) warned that its revenue will fall short of previously lowered estimates in the first quarter, handing the Canadian networking giant and fiber-optics gear maker a wider-than-expected loss.

Nortel also said it will cut 15,000 jobs by mid-year 2001.

Nortel said it anticipates first-quarter sales of $6.1 billion to $6.2 billion, down from a previous estimate of $6.3 billion. The company sees a loss in the range of 10 cents a share to 12 cents a share, compared with an earlier forecast loss of 4 cents a share.

Shares slipped 16 cents, or 0.9 percent, to $16.76 at the close of regular trading and were halted after hours.

DirectPC and finally I get it installed this Friday!). Cable has stalled as has DSL. In rural areas satellite is the way to go and they finally have upload/download at the same rate (coming next month). yee haa. But how many will hop on this bandwagon, and how quickly?

Are they going to let you have network in your house to allow sharing of the internet connections.

Also, what puts do you hold now?
