Trillium Digital Systems (TDS), Inc., the wholly owned subsidiary of Intel Corp. [NASDAQ:INTC] and a provider of communication software solutions, has set up its software center in Bangalore to develop next-generation technologies in communication infrastructure. Besides extending service support to its customers in the Asia-Pacific region, the US-based firm has pumped in an investment of $32 million in its Indian subsidiary, to set up its facility and conduct research and development. "The Indian software development center will be third of its kind in the world for Trillium with two others in the US and Canada. As part of our Asian operations' expansion, the Bangalore facility will also extend customer support to the regional offices in South Korea, Japan, and China," says TDS President Rich Cahalan. Employing about 80 networking software engineers, the Indian arm of the company would meet the time-to-market requirements of regional and international telecom equipment manufacturers (OEMs). "The center will undertake key software development projects in the converged network infrastructure for developing solutions in the cutting-edge technologies such as broadband and wireless applications," Cahalan said. As a premier telecom source code provider, Trillium licenses its source code solutions to about 500 projects being executed by leading industry suppliers of wireless, Internet, broadband, and telephony products. "Trillium's high-performance software and services reduce time, risk, and cost of implementing SS7, IP, ATM, wireless and standard-based communications protocols," said Shiv Shankar, the company's India Managing Director. As Intel's Network Processing Group, the company also focuses on Intel's Internet Exchange Architecture and its software solutions and services are used worldwide by OEMs, system integrators, and application developers to build computer and communication products.
