Carranza,

Why would Verizon want to have its existing spectrum using CDMA2000, and spend $5B to do so, yet use WCDMA in any new spectrum?

Maybe they've been talking to the Korean operators, who are all talking/acting like they'll do the exact same thing. Their current build-outs are CDMA2000, and the new spectrum they just bought in the auction is "intended" to be WCDMA. Apparently someone shipped some of that mad cow beef to Korea a few months back...

Perhaps Q needs start an all out PR campaign that explains, in lucid detail, how they intend on solving the 'roaming' issue on silicon. Perhaps the CDG should be at the forefront of this effort.

Of course, the cabal will vomit up some other objection...but how long can they continue?

You know if NOK solved the roaming problem on silicon the way Q has/will, with multi-band, multimode chips, there'd be press announcements everywhere, with special analyst meetings, CNBC appearances, trumpets blaring, etc.

Q is so used to innovating and solving technology problems I think that they (at times) forget that inventing and selling are two different things entirely.

Hand it to the cabal, they're good at selling.

Same reason SK and KT want to in Korea. IMO, neither Verizon or the Koreans will need to build out new spectrum in the next 3-5 years. So, both situations are moot at this point. If Dr. J is correct (I think he is) then in 2005 CDMA2000 sales will dwarf WCDMA. I think you'll see people reverse their FUD opinions saying that it makes no sense for SK, KT and VZ to deploy WCDMA in new spectrum because the economies of scale wont be there.
