I think that 'buying' representation leads to corruptable candidates. The politicians are forced into a game of weighing their goals and ethics versus the dollar amounts given to them by unions and corporations. Obviously, if company A gave twice as much as company B, I'd have to give them fair value, else next election they won't pony up.

If each company were limited to a representative amount of dollars, I think that would be fine.

The current situation is akin to having a vote that is proportional to the amount of tax you may. My tax man just called me; boy, would I have a lot of clout this year. :)
