Hi Daniel, Thanks for the heads up on the State Comptroller's difficulties. I'll have to seek out the WSJ article. You must be pleased that the CPUC decided to bite the bullet and raise rates. Seems that the "capitalist pig" crowd, to use your phrase, is gaining the upper hand in the battle to win over the hearts and minds of the California electricity consumer. I remain in the camp of my local electrical co-op CEO. We're getting gamed and when all this mess is finally brought out into the light of day, we'll discover that there really isn't a valid justification for the precipitous price rises that millions will suffer at the hands of those who would deign to game the system. Not that you won't enjoy the extra income for playing the game well. While the CA Comptroller may well be playing politics with the Water Resources Dept. information, I'd love to see what she can dig out from the records. Sunshine laws ought to make this a no-brainer. What do you suppose the Water Resources people are trying to hide? As far as Davis management style is concerned, one could argue that in fact Davis has been the master of delegation. While he publicly states that he's opposed to the latest move by the CPUC, he certainly was responsible for appointing 3 of 5 commissioners there. I strongly suspect that Davis is in agreement with the actions of the CPUC, but for the sake of political expediency is merely posturing. And in a further comparison to Herb Kelleher, I do not for one second buy into the claptrap about Southwest being a consumer favorite. When I fly Southwest, it's called the "cattle call". It is popular because 1) the planes don't generally fall out of the sky and 2) it's cheap. That doesn't make it anyone's favorite, merely a compromise choice between comfort and cost. So, Gov. Davis is offering exactly what Kelleher offers. Cheap prices and somebody else doing the dirty work. The Sacratomato Bee/ Dan Walters' opinion is completely specious if not utterly vacuous, IMVHO. Not to mention fawning and obsequious. <g> Ray :)
