Ben,

Too funny. So when a network is upgraded to 1x, all existing handsets are compatible......except NOK's.

a software glitch that prevents legacy Nokia handsets from working with networks that implement 1xRTT technology."

My take is that the new NOK/Telson handsets are CDMAOne not 1x. They probably use Q's chips but NOK's software. Remember in the original NOK PR regarding the Telson partnership, they were very much set on using their own user interface to give the NOK handset a unique look and feel. Well, it's unique all right.

Considering that most if not all 1x basestations use Q's chips and software it gives Q a major advantage in providing the most efficient chips and software for the handsets. Those manufacturers that choose to use their own chips and/or software will find it more difficult. This is the way the Gorilla Game is supposed to play out.

This doesn't sound to me like it's referring to the brand spanking new 1x Nokia handsets - they'd hardly be legacy.

I went back and reread the article....and you are right, it doesnt seem like it is including the 8877/8887 in the problem. That would clear up my misunderstanding on the cause of the problem.

However, I dont think that the new handsets are 1x compatible. I thought they were only IS-95B. Sadly, Nokia's PR mentions nothing about the network standard....

Hey Ben and thread...

Anyone wanna take a crack at upgrading QCOM earnings estimates to take into consideration replacement sales for legacy Nokia phones??? ;-)
