Did you know that sperm counts in the US have dropped by 50% in the last 30 years?

I've heard the claim but I've never seen any hard evidence for it.

"That's bad news for activists, who have been winning international media attention on the theory
that chemicals get into the human hormone stream where they cause endless havoc, including
headline-grabbing phenomena such as male animals with unusual genital development.
"Endocrine disruption is a big problem. In animal studies it's well known that you don't have the
development of a penis, or you get something that's somewhere in between the penis and the
clitoris in animals when they're exposed to pesticides." So said Kelly martin of the Canadian
Association of Physicians for the Environment.
Chemical-caused endocrine disruption, for example, was supposed to be reducing male sperm
counts. "Human male sperm counts had dropped by almost 50 per cent between 1938 and 1990,"
was a typical claim.
But study after study failed to find a sperm count reduction.
Activists are unphased by science, however. An Ottawa Citizen story by Donna Jacobs
enthusiastically endorsed the idea that "in the end, there is no safe dose for chemicals "because
they act at extremely, sometimes immeasurably, low levels." And that's the final logic of Junk
science's open crusade for zero chemicals: The chemicals that are killing you cannot be seen or
measure, but we must ban them anyway."
