John, I agree that there was irrational valuations on some of these stocks. But markets have a way of correcting themselves. Eventually, investors would realize they were buying into garbage and prices would come down as quickly as they went up.

My problem is with Greenspan's attacks on the markets. If I were buying into Bre-X or cheap speculative stock I'd expect to get burnt. In his attempt to slow down the frenzy he took a Nuclear weapon and annihilated everything in sight. This resulted in so-called Blue-chip stocks taking the hit together with the speculative dot.coms.

My contention is that he should have kept his big mouth shut and stayed the friggin away from the markets. After all, our whole economy is based on the principle of Supply and Demand. And once the supply would have exceeded Demand prices would have come down.
