Tolerance has also taken on a new meaning, tolerance used to mean that everyone was entitled to hold their own beliefs, even though you might disagree with them I think it still means that. now it has somehow come to mean that we must embrace and even celebrate the practices and beliefs of others even when they are diametrically opposed to our own I don't see "I'm OK, you're OK" as celebrating, just accepting. I take tolerance to the "If you're happy with your beliefs/practices, I'm happy for you" level, but I can see where some might see that as verging on celebration. I don't celebrate things that I disapprove. I just tolerate. I don't think it's reasonable to expect more. to me the real battleground today is going to be fought over the issue of Pedophilia. Could you elaborate on this? I can't imagine anyone tolerating let alone celebrating pedophilia. That's just totally taboo. Even if someone though pedophilia were OK, they wouldn't be stupid enough to stand up and advocate acceptance. What bothers me is that we seem to be in a situation where we have eliminated any standard by which to judge any action to be "wrong". I think there is a consensus that anything that uses physical force or fraud against another is wrong. Karen
