Hi Pat
I am not familiar with John Hogue, are you sure of the spelling? Just a couple of points about Pentecostals, First The word is spelled with an e, not an a. Secondly there is a huge difference between Pentecostal denominations. The UPC is a fringe, cultic group, that deny the Trinity and engage in many other abusive and Legalistic practices. All other Pentecostal denominations that I am aware of, would affirm the Trinity and would not agree with many of the abusive practices of the UPC. Pentecostalism is generally defined by it's primary focus on what they believe to be the biblical gift of tongues,(the supernatural ability of an individual, to speak in a foreign language that they have never been taught). This took place historically on the day of Pentecost, and is recorded in the second chapter of the book of Acts. I have strong doubts that the current practice of tongue speaking is legitimate, since it seems not to be actual languages but rather more like ecstatic utterance that is common to many trance cults. That being said I have friends who are Pentecostal, and although I think they are mistaken on this point I would consider them to be Christians nonetheless. I would not say that about the UPC.
