Elizabeth, I'm not talking about cable modems or DSL hooked up to a PC. . . .but the faster and FAR more useful set-top box. . .which looks like your DirecTV box or your cable box . . . stays hooked up in a similar manner and allows you to enjoy the net on your TV sets from the comfort of your favorite chair or sofa. And I am not talking about the internet as you know it to be. . . . but the one that we have yet to see. And I will do a dance the day they install set-top boxes throughout my house. . . .5 out of 6 of my PCs will be retired . . . or demoted to word processor or game machine. We'll return to being a 1 PC house. . . .can't wait. . . . though we are probably several years off yet.

Get a heavy-duty professional power surge protector with battery backup. Cost is about $150. Worth it, particularly if your area is prone to spring storms. Mine is PowerSure ProActive by Liebert.
