That is an interesting view. Contrast that with this one, which is another perspective:

Having once been an avid scientist, my personal belief is that Nature should be allowed to take its course. The problem in a nutshell is that human nature refuses to accept that there is indeed a Circle of Life, and insist that we only have growth and immortality. This is Greenspan's mission, to attempt to promote never-ending growth without inflation no less, but in the attempt, mis-allocation of resources is allowed. Much like the fox and hare food chain, I guess.

Also, if you have time, could you ask your friend why he thinks Greenspan was able to "engineer" this, because he had been calling it irrational exhuberance for years, and all this happened only after rates began to tick up on its own, presumable due to market pressures, and Greenspan is seen to "follow the curve", rather than lead. I would be interested in his thoughts.

As for the AI thing, I guess people are always trying to build a better mousetrap, but since the market never repeats exactly, this will perhaps be an elusive goal.
