Kevin,

In 1996, it was a suspicion that my Mother had the beginnings of Alzheimer's disease. I called for an appointment to see her doctor to find out for sure, and was informed that he would not see me unless she was with me. We went into the treatment room, he came in an slammed his clipboard down on the table, and angrily said; "I didn't call this meeting. What do you want??" I asked him if she was suffering from this disease, and he said "I told her six months ago that she had Alzheimer's. She should have told you." Even if she could have remembered what he said, she would not have told anyone. His receptionist knew damned well I was sitting in the waiting room, but didn't think I should be made aware of her condition, even though I was her only relative in the whole town. In short, he didn't give a flying flip about her.

<<Like the one that came into my mother-in-law's hospital room and nonchalantly told her she wouldn't see the next Christmas. >>

A week after my father died my mother had a stroke. 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve I was in her room and the doctor walked in and said she would be discharged the day after Christmas because insurance only covered so many days for a stroke. I offered to write a good check for a couple of more days so I could get her into a long term care facility. They wouldn't take the check, wanted the insurance money. That's what really scared me about Hillary's government medical plan. Ever try to find a long term care place on Christmas day?
