"if your burner has buffer underrun capabilities its ok to surf if not don't use your computer for anything other than the burn

How do you know if those capabilities are adequate? I am looking to buy a CD-RW to use for storing several generations of home pictures. I have no knowledge of "burners" at all and was about to bring the subject up when I saw this post. I have a Micron 600 w/256mb of RAM, 2 hard drives, CD DVD, Zip and floppy. I have looked at all kinds of burners (ide) at Best Buy, Staples and Circuit City but really have no idea of what to look for.

I am also looking for software that will enable someone to look at those pictures after I get them onto CD's.

Can anyone help with some advice on what to look for or at least to avoid? Thanks!

Bob
