Well Mike, my solution is to have a video camera that takes in the screen and the computer users with a time stamp that can be used with logging software to show who was at the computer and what they did. A sign should clearly indicate that this is being done. Unless a library creates a limited access adult area then this should be done. tom watson tosiwmee

The law, scheduled to go into effect this month, requires schools and public libraries that take certain federal funds to equip all computers that might be used by kids with a system to block sites that are obscene or show material harmful to minors. (The communities themselves are supposed to decide what technology to use and what to block.) Perhaps this overview of the law leaves something important out, because it doesn't make sense. The Federal government is telling local libraries that they have to install blocking software but that they don't actually have to block anything unless the locality wants to. I don't get it. If communities want to block the stuff they can do so now so why do they need a Federal law? This issue is kind of interesting because it has a lot of threads running through it, but I don't see it as much of a priority nor do I see it as being very effective. Another one of those feel-good laws, seems to me. Karen
