With regard to honesty of guidance: Intel has failed to meet analysts expectations in FIVE OF THE LAST SIX quarters. AMD is failed ONCE. Click on the Yahoo "Research" link on the two companies and look at actual EPS vs Estimate at the bottom for the past year: ____ Q1 est. act. % Q2 est. act. % Q3 est. act. % Q4 est. act. % AMD 0.29 0.58 +100% 0.57 0.61 +7% 0.62 0.64 +3% 0.55 0.53 -4% INTC 0.35 0.36 +3% 0.49 0.50 +2% 0.38 0.41 +7% 0.37 0.38 +1% However, relative to expectations at the beginning of each quarter, Intel failed every time. As they warned quarter after quarter, they were fairly accurate in their warnings, but in every case the only reason they exceeded their "warning" numbers was by taking more capital gains than they had guided. OTOH, estimates for AMD were always rising during the quarter (except Q4 with the warning). Intel never admitted that they lost market share. That is a blatant lie. When they warned they even claimed that they were not losing market share this quarter. Liars! For Q3 they insisted on analysts including capital gains in their estimates, because they said capital gains were a normal part of their business strategy. Again a lie. Craig Barrett lied to the analysts in Europe right before the Q4 warning, saying guidance was unchanged. With regard to product roadmaps, if you aren't used to everything being late from both these companies, you are not living in this universe. The original Athlon was actually LATE, do you realize that? Intel's last two major products, Coppermine and P4, were both late. 1.13 GHz P3 was originally supposed to be re-introduced by the end of the year. No show. Every chipset was late. And have you actually seen any gigglebooks? Looked 3 times and haven't found any. I am convinced Intel will not meet its P4 sales estimates. I'm sure you are aware that 95% of techology companies are not meeting investor's expectaions. AMD is a company that is, it is one of the few tech companies that has not issued a warning. Is that because they are lying or because they are performing. I would say that most investors agree that it is because they are performing. (#1 of 500 stocks in S&P500) Petz
