I said that was the main argument. I happen to believe that removing them would decrease supply, and drive up the cost. A lot of criminals are low life poor scum, and would have trouble scrapping up the dough to buy a gun if it cost $1000 or $2000 dollars, instead of $99.

It may be a pipe dream to ban hand guns. Better restrictions, including background checks and longer waiting periods, could tip the ratio of guns away from the criminals, relieving the fear that only criminals will have guns. Some way of drying up the ready supply of guns is necessary, I believe, to move us in the right direction.
