Well P40, even investing/buying long is really not "investing" in the company... meaning it does not give the company actual money to put to use. That is only done at the venture, IPO, and secondary stages... unless you're buying bonds. So maybe you should start investing in bonds my friend?? ;-) Otherwise, it really is all just a game. There's not much difference between going long and going short when it really comes down to it... both are mere bets the stock will go one way or the other.

P40, if you short on Datek which uses Island you are selling a stock you haven't bought yet to some person who does want to buy it.

The guys that get into an IPO invest in a company. After that, we are just trading stocks. The most money can be made trading in the direction the market is going.

It's to the big boyz advantage to perpetuate the mantra, "buy a good stock and hold it forever" They need your base so they can play their games.

There is nothing morally wrong with shorting. We're not cheering the market down. It's already doing that. We are just playing it the direction it is going. Although Flack doesn't believe it, 1/3 of my trades are shorts.
