Michael, I predict that the US software industry will eventually be wiped out by companies in India.

India has a population of over 1 billion, most of which live in abject poverty. They also have a vast resource of intelligent people and improving education system. The people work for peanuts compared to the going rate over here.

The man-hour intensive software mills of today will become like American heavy industry of yesteryear. They will get outproduced at a cheaper price by those countries that have the cheap intellectual capital.

India is tuning up their production now, kind of like Japan with the cars in the 50's and 60's. Let's watch history repeat itself.

Again, a rather gloomy take on a situation that probably isn't quite so stark. But, I don't see massive barriers to entry - therefore others will eventually enter.
