OT opinion on market -- I've talked to a lot of people who are "long-term investors". None of them have been particularly concerned about the market, saying "Oh well, I invest for the long term, so I don't worry about it going up and down." However, I'm wondering how many people looked at the end-of-the-month prices for their stocks and mutual funds over the weekend, and then called to sell on Monday and today. I think many who WEREN'T too concerned have now become VERY concerned. In the past they've been used to buying the dips and seeing the market rebound. That isn't happening now. Also, I think many have gotten margin calls and are also still doing some tax selling. Hopefully, this week or next, we can get done with selling and then perhaps have a short-term rally. I doubt it will last long, however. Too much damage has to be repaired, so I think we'll be building a base for quite a while.

Regarding stocks paying dividends becoming fashionable -- Not many stocks pay over 2-3%. Is that going to be an incentive over the prospect of more growth from a NON-dividend paying stock?

By coincidence I've also been traveling, and blissfully ignorant of the market's travails. I'm using a very slow dialup connection right now, so I can't say much right now.
