No, it doesn't. An of course the continual mocking of atheists and agnostics cuts against the fact that any republicans actually respect them. I don't believe I've heard anyone of the RWET variety ever say a good word about any atheist or agnostic- which is rather suspicious considering they don't have a litmus test or anything. and of course the continual hoo ha(sp?) about moral values and religion! My goodness if I've been told once I've been told 100 times on these threads- you just can't be ethical if you aren't religious. I can't imagine the folks on these boards are so unique there aren't some just like 'em in Washington. That real strains credulity- don't you agree? What we witness here, is surely represented there. Which is kind of scary, actually.

I consider that a matter of sociological disagreement rather than bigotry. Washington acknowledges that in some minds, education alone might inculcate the precepts of morality, but he is afraid that without religion, the masses will become libertine and slothful towards their duties. It is a matter of dispute whether the influence of religion is so integral to the success of democracy, of course, but it is a plausible hypothesis, at least.......
