Kevin, You are either too young, or do not understand what really happened at Pear Harbor. The entire Pacific Fleet was called into Pearl by executive order. An order that appalled all of the military commanders in the area. That is something that is not done when war is so close to breaking out. Had Halsey not developed "engine trouble" in his carrier task force, we would have had no Navy at all in the Pacific. FDR gave that order. His New Deal was not working. Mobilizing the economy for war would jump start industry and begin to counter act the depression. You do the math. It is first grade stuff.
