You seems to understand a lot about Chinese/Asian culture. But as a Chinese, I would like to add one point here: in this "spy plane" thing, it is already beyond "saving face" like almost all the Americans talk about, it is about SAVING THE DIGNITY for being a sovereign state! If the US still thinks China should let US do whatever they want wherever they want, including spying on China's top-secret military project right at the China's gateway, they must be out of their mind! And if the US still keeps doing this kind of so-called routine spying at China's gateway, I am afraid this incidence is just a tip of the iceberg.

Limtex,

Relations with China are not Junior School politics they are Post Grad level. It also hepls to recognize that China is about 22.5% of the human race with a 5,000 year history.

They are also very very good friends with long memories

They may have long memories but you apparently do not have much knowledge of history or choose to ignore it. Those "very very good friends" helped butcher many of the 50k+ Americans in defiance of the United Nations during the Korean "police action".

They just rammed an unarmed US plane in international air space in defiance of all recognized international standards and laws, and now hold American citizens prisoner because they illegally entered Chinese airspace (after declaring an emergency and declaring a May Day), again in spite of clear international regulations pertaining to this type of situation.

Many who are reading this may have had friends or relatives who never came back, after meeting your "very very good friends" in Korea and I doubt if many of the families of those being held now would consider them to be friends of any kind.

You are either very naive or believe the rest of us to be very stupid!

My apologies to the rest of the thread for this OT rant.
