pompsander:

lower cost producer is slashing prices and taking market share

They are practically giving away the stuff with the help of INTC's and MSFT's marketing funds to cover operating costs.
They have two choices: layoff off staff now while volume of value added workstations and servers sales are down bigtime or keep the staff busy building $500 systems that have no profit in them in the meantime. They have been doing that since DEC and you can see why they havn't given any guidance going forward.

-- Recession ends; they raise prices; unit volume picks up; they make money; announce earnings guidance.

-- Recession doesn't end; Zeev's summertime crapout occurs. I don't think it will take semi-smart analysts like Kumar et al to figure this puzzle out sometime soon.
