at most 10% of the population by generous estimates. James, I've been watching you deftly tip toe around this subject for some time now. I'm not so sure that ten percent is generous. People deceive themselves and others on this. I recall reading of a study where they counted noses outside of churches and compared that with the number of people who, in surveys, said they attended regularly. Huge difference. I remember how long it took from the time I stopped believing until I actually acknowledged it to myself let alone out loud. The nagging feeling that some lightening bolt would appear takes a while to dissipate. And the social stigma is real. There's not a lot of motivation to fess up. If there were so many religious people in the world, I would know more of them. I suspect that a large number of the nominally religious are really agnostics. (The fundamentalists aren't totally off base re their distaste for Christian liberalism.) Karen
