OT: plane collision - from a news report yesterday

A source in the intelligence community supplies this information (being a former member of exactly such an aircrew I must say this sounds completely plausible):

The P3 turboprop was flying about 250 mph. The fighters were attempting to fly in a very tight (and threatening) formation beside the turboprop aircraft. The fighter pilots were having trouble flying this slowly and one of them was slightly weaving to burn off airspeed to keep from flying out ahead. It was during one of the weaving maneuvers that the fighter came in contact with the American plane.
