>> Why is it that the Euros don´t feel any compelling need to fly spy planes just off the Chinese coast?

Perhaps it's because they are counting on the USA to bail them out for the 3rd time.

"National security is a funny thing. The more you have it the less you have it. "

LOL!!!

The problem is.. During the Clinton Admin.. They claim we didn't have any National Security.. Now, in the New Bush Admin.. We suddenly have regained our National Security!!!

The only problem is.... Why do I feell LESS SECURE NOW???

BTW... The Chinese have no designs on Alabama!!! They are more interested in the strategic properties of Eastern Kentucky...

What Third World mud hut did you crawl out of on your way to Europe's shores? Wherever it was, it's apparent you didn't get much of an education about 20th Century European history and why the U.S. maintains an international military presence.
Fact is, history shows that the U.S. is in the thankless but indispensable position of having to protect the world against itself. Not only did we win two wars for the Europeans but we also had to foot the bill for rebuilding much of Western Europe. We built and paid for NATO to fend off the USSR, and we've had to jump in when the rest of Europe sat on its thumbs to keep various Balkan groups from self-destruction.
So our strategy to keep an eye on the Chinese is a no-brainer. You can rest comfortably knowing that your American cousins, as you so presumptuously characterize us, are keeping the world safe for democracy.
Which brings me to my next point, and that's the chauvinism and parochialism you reflect in your on-going diatribes on this board. While the U.S. role in the 20th century was to bail Europe out of its political malaise, it seems that an important role in this century will be to rescue Europe from its wrongheaded telecom technology missteps. I'm glad that you've evolved into such a consummate European, but I promise that there will be a day in the not too distant future when you'll wish you'd said less, listened more and endeavored to learn a little from your so-called American cousins who lurk on this board.
