You must be right...then, what were they looking for over international waters? I think they were studying the mating habits of dolphins. Scumbria says they were looking for golf courses but I don't think that can be right...I mean, how many islands have golf courses.

I think they where doing something that they had every right to do and that violates no international convention or treaty and they did not infringe on Chinese rights because they did not enter China's airspace until they where damaged by the Chinese.
