t,

but what makes you so sure it will tank right after earnings?

It's a guess based on Intel selling the 933 Mhz PIII in the majority of their highend desktop boxes in Q1, the extremely low sales of P4 in Q1, and Barrett's comment last month that their business "doesn't look particularly good" for the three months of visibility that they have. The huge sales declines that communication chip companies have reported indicate that that part of Intel's business is also in the crapper.

I do not believe that the reality that Intel must paint on the 17th is priced into the stock. I don't think the market has any idea how bad things are at Intel. It's like telling someone that they have cancer. They stay in denial, until they actually feel like they are dying. Will acceptance of mobile and dual processor Athlon systems create this feeling in Intel investors. Don't know, but when it happens, Intel drops below $10 per share.

Pravin.

rsi boy:

Further to Pravin's response, INTC's last guidance was for a 25% revenue decline sequentially...If true, expect both gross margins and no. of units to take it on the chin which combined efffect with an incremental sequential decline of $500 million in investment income, spells for a "sick" Q1 eps...but, having said all that, perhaps if revenues decline only 20%, we'll get another bounce like today's Dell reaction...Also, can't underestimate the INTC spinmeisters who are currently busy conjuring up the 12 to 18 month "mother lode" image for INTC!!!
